Data Protection

Datasport takes data protection very seriously. Careful and legally compliant handling of athletes’ data is a fundamental principle of our work. Please note the following comments on this subject.
  • Datasport acts for and on behalf of the organiser when saving, processing and publishing starting lists and rankings. All rights and obligations pertaining to these activities and publications belong to the organisers of sporting events.
  • By registering for an event, the participant accepts the general terms and conditions and/or rules of the organiser. In general, the organisers publish the rules on their websites. Payment of the entry fee constitutes acceptance of the rules. Express consent is not required. If a person registers several other persons at the same time, then the organiser can assume that said person is acting for them and on their behalf and that the rules are accepted by all.
  • It is generally considered to be recognised and accepted that a starting list and ranking is created for an event and that these are made available to the general public in writing (through a notice), verbally (through speaker announcements) as well as through publication in newspapers, magazines and Internet. Many organisers already make explicit reference to such publication in their rules. Even without this explicit mention, an organiser may assume that a participant is aware of this fact and consents to this accepted and common practice. Publication of starting numbers, names, age group and location on starting lists and rankings is permitted since as defined by law, these are not “data especially worthy of protection”. In special cases, exceptions are possible. The requirement for an exception to be made is a written request (via letter or e-mail) to the organiser. This request must be made prior to the event. In any case, the decision falls to the organiser.
  • The organiser alone decides whether to pass on postal and e-mail address to partners and sponsors based on its rules. Restriction of this disclosure of personal information is possible and must be requested of the organiser in writing via letter or e-mail.
  • Datasport operates a Web application to record mobile numbers for its SMS service. These recorded numbers are only used in conjunction with the event in question. They are never passed on to the organiser, sponsors or other third parties.
  • During online registration, it is necessary to provide personal information. As a collection company, Datasport must be able to traceably document every transaction for a period of ten years. For this reason, complete deletion of data is not possible, yet it is possible to deactivate an account and restrict the use of these data.
