Restful nights are the key to incredible victories

Athletes train for years to compete in prestigious competitions. While intensive training is certainly important, so is recovery.

«Having a good and deep sleep is essential for our performance during the competitions», says Tanja Hüberli, professional beach volleyball player for Switzerland.

In the first deep sleep phase, a growth hormone is released, helping the body to repair and regenerate. The hormone stimulates protein synthesis, promotes cell division, and aids tissue repair. To reap the benefits of a hard day of training, it is essential to give the body the rest it needs.

Research has shown that sleeping better can help improve speed, accuracy and reaction time when doing sports, therefore enhancing athletes’ overall performance. Just as we require more calories when we do more sports, we also need more sleep to fully recover. If athletes are training intensively, they should even sleep up to an hour extra per night. Athletes who get less than 8 hours of sleep at night are almost twice as likely to get a sports injury as those who sleep more than 8 hours.

Temperature makes or breaks recovery

Although many athletes are aware of the role that recovery plays in their performance, they might not realize that temperature has a big impact on our sleep. We are more susceptible to temperature changes during our sleep than when we are awake. Therefore, if our temperature fluctuates during the night, our vital deep sleep phases are disturbed, and our sleep quality decreases. This has a negative effect on athletes’ nightly recovery process.

Studies have shown that 7 out of 10 athletes get too hot during the night, which means their sleep quality, and therefore the impact of their nightly recovery, is compromised.

Ronnie Schildknecht, 11x IRON MAN champion, is aware of the impact that thermoregulation has on recovery:  "To choose a specific, technical clothing for sleep that helps the body to maintain an optimal sleeping climate is of utmost importance to me. I was already thrilled about the sleepwear’s sleeping comfort after the first night and can recommend Dagsmejan to everyone, whether a professional athlete or office employee."

How Dagsmejan sleepwear improves nightly recovery for athletes

Staying in the ideal climatic comfort zone during the night is essential to recover fully. Excess heat and sweat however can disturb athletes’ sleep. To regulate temperature fluctuations, athletes should wear moisture absorbing sleepwear.

"Every area is optimised in training, but sleep is the real base for my performance. Dagsmejan sleepwear has become an integral part of my sleep system since the first time I used it", says Fabian Meeusen, Swiss triathlete.

Dagsmejan’s Balance  sleepwear combines evaporative cooling with moisture wicking technology to keep you at the ideal sleeping temperature all night.

It forms the basis for a deeper and better sleep, as the sleepwear is

  • 6 x more breathable than cotton
  • 4x better at drawing sweat away from the skin
  • 2x softer than cotton

Dagsmejan’s Balance collection combines the finest natural fibers with patented textile technology to provide revolutionary moisture management and temperature regulation. Balance sleepwear is scientifically proven to boost your sleep comfort, achieving results previously only known to the world of synthetic fibers used in sportswear.

“Dagsmejan sleepwear has really benefitted my sleep. It’s like having a great mattress, or a soft silky duvet but this has direct contact to your skin, so I’ve found it to have a really positively powerful effect. Because it feels so good to put on, it even makes me look forward to bedtime more!”, says Emma Pallant, British athlete and duathlon world champion.
