When running, only wear as much clothing as necessary

Runners often dress too warmly because they underestimate the enormous increase in core body temperature after just a few minutes. When it is cold, the body can increase its basal metabolic rate, i.e. the energy required to maintain the core body temperature at 37 degrees, by a factor of four. Therefore, different layers of clothing are ideal in cool temperatures: functional underwear, a heat insulating layer, and wind and water protection.
