Now is the right time to set goals for the new year.
Due to the current situation, long-term planning has become more difficult again. This could have a demotivating effect, as it is well known that no path is the right one without a goal. For that reason, we would like to present five different goals that are worth pursuing and will motivate you to don your training gear on a regular basis in 2022.
The athletic goal
Set yourself a goal for each type of sport that you do regularly. If you know exactly where you want to go, when you want to get there, and whether it's actually realistic, you'll massively improve your chances of success. This namely gives you a good reason to exercise on a daily basis and contribute to the bigger picture. Such goals could, for example, be three training units per week, an altitude difference of 1,000 metres per month, or 1,000 running kilometres per year.
Find the right challenges for you and feel the lure that arises!
The USA has an official «Running Streak Association", which sets clear rules for this: the consecutive days in which you run at least one mile (1.6 km) are counted. The series ends when you take a day off from running.
Challenge yourself several times throughout the year and try to set up a series. Start with a week, then increase it to two or even four weeks. Your personal series doesn't necessarily have to involve running days but could also include different sports. Just adapt it to suit your needs and create your own series! By the way, the record for running days is 52 years and 39 days…
Do something new more often
Corona has changed our attitude towards sports over the past two years. The cancellation of competitions frequently meant the lack of a major goal. As a result, many reduced their training, whereas others discovered something new and found a new passion.
You too can abandon your standard routine and embark on new routes. Start small with a new lap in the forest, then run from A to B or find a fitting experience here.
A major competitive goal
Find a challenge that you are not yet able to tackle today. One that is perfectly realistic but requires thorough preparation. You’ll see how this sets a lot in motion and motivates you to keep at it day in and day out. There are numerous events in our calendar that are suitable for this. From A, such as the «Amadé Radmarathon», to Z, such as the «Zytturm Triathlon».
New competitive goals
Be prepared to take on new challenges in the new year. How about participating in races you haven't yet heard of? Or in types of sports that you have only been doing in your training? You'll see how this challenges you anew and increases your motivation! You can find running, cycling, multi-sports, and winter sports challenges here.
